Our Volunteer Engagement Program will enable volunteers to be trained in use of the Memory Lane Games app to become a valuable resource to support person-centred dementia care.
We understand the wonderful effort volunteers provide in supporting people living with dementia. This can be especially challenging when in unfamiliar settings, such as a hospital, whether this be on a dementia ward or in a general clinical ward; it can be hard to engage the person living with dementia and keep them calm and settled.
With games we initially made for our mums, we have a proven tool to help engage people living with dementia. Our familiar, personalised games are designed to trigger positive memories and start wonderful conversations. We have games about most cities across the UK and worldwide plus games on hobbies, interests like music, film/TV, pets, sports, local foods. Our accessible frustration-free design makes it easy for the person living with dementia to find something they want to talk about. Volunteers can ask “Where did you grow up?” and start playing our simple, fun trivia-style games, and enjoy the interactions triggered by the wonderful, familiar photos.
Our Clinical Trial showed the positive impact that regular play can have on those with dementia and those that care for them too.

Memory Lane Games attracts many supporters and ambassadors who want to help because the app is fun, worthwhile and beneficial. Launching a volunteer program is one way of allowing those who want to help to do so in a structured way. Many of these volunteers may have been touched by dementia previously and this will enable them to feel that they are doing something useful and helpful. In addition to this it is a practical way to support the delivery of healthcare and those that work in the under-resourced and sometimes undervalued area of care.
